We teach from The Adult Bible Studies and encourage class discussion. We are always looking for more lay teachers to volunteer in teaching and assisting us in other acts of worship.
Our pianist is Freya Bess, and we start singing promptly at 9:45 (a courtesy to our teachers). We like to have a time to sing all of our favorites and maybe to learn a few new ones. This is a great time for us to share in each other's joy and sorrow.

"THE CLASS WITH A HEART THAT FORGES AHEAD"
Even though the Pioneer class is a diverse group in age, marital status, and interests, we work together on projects to enhance the overall well-being of our class. We are also very aware of the responsibility we have to both our Church and our community. We have always been involved in church projects such as adopting a children's classroom and working to meet the needs of others.
Our class is very active in fellowship with one another. We enjoy each other's company and seek opportunities to gather and celebrate any occasion. We have frequent parties. Most Sunday mornings you can find us gathered around the table in our classroom, partaking of the goodies our members offer.
Our own members volunteer their time to lead our class. We use a variety of materials to explore God's word. We may use the Internation Series from Cokesbury, or we may venture out to explore literature series on a variety of topics. Whatever the literature, you can be assured that we will have lots of class participation and explore the questions of what God is saying to us in a situation.
You can see that we are a dedicated group that prides itself in being involved in our church. You can find us in all areas of the church - from the trustees board to the "kitchen help". We are involved! Come join us!

You are cordially invited to visit our adult class, married or single, and in a wide range of ages. Some are retired, some are still actively pursuing a career, and others just call themselves working. We think we have one of the friendliest classes. We enjoy snacks and coffee preceding each session.
Our class studies the Bible, chapter by chapter, and a very open discussion relates the Biblical writings to today's experiences and fast paced and changing world. We feel enriched by studying the Gospel and growing in our walk with the Lord. Our class could definitely be considered a caring and sharing group. We study in a classroom setting with each member having ample table space for their Bible and other study materials. We are confident you will find this experience both informative and spiritually uplifting.
We also enjoy weekend retreats at Camp Sumatanga to allow us time for a renewal of our spiritual commitment. Our class participates in all activities of the church and will always be available to offer a helping hand. Our program chairperson schedules social events, as the class desires.

Our social gatherings outside of Sunday School include our annual Christmas party and occasional cook-outs.

The Fellowship Class here at First United Methodist Church is a wonderful group of caring individuals who love and care for their Church and for the people around them.
We dedicate ourselves to learning the Word of God. We do a variety of studies that help each of us understand God in the midst of our busy lifestyles. Our class is constantly growing and we are very proud of that. The average age is somewhere between 25-40. We are a diverse group comprised of people from all walks of life and cultures. We celebrate our diversity and become one through the Spirit of God.
We know how hard it is to stay connected to friends and family since many of us have small children and are in the prime of our career building. During the year, we get together frequently for a Sunday School social; some of these socials include our children, and on a few occasions, we have an "adults only" social. We sometimes have a fish fry or a barbecue, sometimes we go to a restaurant together, or we may hang out and watch a ball game. These socials give us the chance to really get to know each other and spend time together.
Throughout the year, we do different things to help raise money for an upcoming event or whatever we feel is important to the church and our community.
We offer a lot of fun in a Christian environment. Our main goal is to continue to grow spiritually as a group and to keep our eyes focused on Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
We welcome you to join us and be a part of this warm-hearted class.

About 15 years ago, our church's associate pastor, Jayne Poole, asked several members of the existing Sunday school classes and a group of newcomers to form a new class. This blend of those with deep ties to First United Methodist Church of Trussville and those with fresh ideas and enthusiasm proved a harmonious one, and the New Beginnings class was off to a great start. Today, the class still incorporates into its fellowship a variety of members. from some who were part of the original group, to others who have recently joined our church.
Most New Beginnings members have children, ranging in age from infancy to college student. We enjoy getting together for several social events during the year. A summer pool party and Christmas dinner are usually on the calendar. The class also conducts service projects, which include helping our youth group, supporting other church projects, and helping needy families in the area.
Lessons are drawn from a wide range of sources: from traditional church literature to ideas gleaned from the Internet. Whatever the topic, lessons almost always include some lively discussion.
One of the greatest strengths of the New Beginnings class is the strong bond of friendship between members. Love for each other, for our church, and most of all, for God, gives the class a firm foundation and the prospect of a bright future.

This class, composed of single individuals and couples with and without children, has a great deal to offer in the way of Christian study and fellowship. While most of our members are between the ages of 30 and 50, we promise not to discriminate against those youthful twenty-somethings, or the equally youthful post-midlifers that come to visit. We've all got a lot to share. Speaking of sharing, it plays a very important role in the New Horizons Christian study plan.
Led by an enthusiastic and challenging teacher, our Bible study is more often than not applied against the joys and sorrows of living, working and developing meaningful relationships in the 21st century. Discussions are facilitated with the aid of guides that lead the class through a variety of study subjects. These may range from the books of the Bible, such as Mark, Acts, or Revelations, to specialized studies about rearing a Christian family in today's world or learning what it really means to accept God's will in our lives. Lively conversation is not only accepted, it is encouraged.
While most of our class members are actively pursuing careers and family, many also find time to be actively involved in the ministries of the Church. We have several who devote their time to teaching classes for our Church's children and youth. Others have worked diligently with our Missions ministry by building churches in foreign lands and building Habitat for Humanity in neighboring communities. Still others lend their God-given talents by raising their voices - while some may be found doing this in the hallways, most can be found in the choir loft during the Sunday services, lifting up their voices to the Lord. if this is not enough to get you through the door for that first visit, it may help to know that many of us believe that true fellowship can only be attained when there's food involved. For this reason, we try to have a little something to share each week, and most of our socials revolve around an "eating" event. Be it a spring wiener roast on the Church playground, a progressive dinner for the holidays, or a chili cook-off during the fall, we enjoy gettin together to share our stories of family, work and of course, sporting events. And in doing so, we keep in mind that we all have come from the grace of God, and to Him we owe thanks.

We meet from 12-1 each Sunday in the Fellowship Hall for a light lunch and a devotion.

Crossroads is the NEWEST Adult Sunday School Class at FUMCT. We were formed in the summer of 2006 by our Minister of Discipleship, Reverend Amelia Sims.
Crossroads is a rich blend of adults - young and not-so-young, singles and couples, new residents to the Trussville area and people who grew up here, people who are new to FUMCT and established members - in other words - Everyone is Welcome!
Our studies are discussion-based, no lecturing! We began with John Ortberg's book - If You Want to Walk On Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat - a lesson of Peter's invitation to step out in faith. Other studies include Warren W. Wiersbe's Be Compassionate [Luke 1-13]. Be Compassionate is one book from Wiersbe's 23 "BE" series of books (Be Loyal, Be Diligent, Be Wise, Be Faithful, etc.) - our plans include addtional books from the "BE" series along with other materials.
Our class is very mission oriented - we have served at the Church of the Reconciler in Birmingham and have plans to continue this mission.
